Innovation Magnificent `Elephant Water Clock'


Bahrain Weekly One of the famous inventions on display at the Bahrain Science Centre during November and December 2013 is a two-metre tall replica of al-Jazari's `Elephant Water Clock'.
Bahrain This Week ePaper / Bahrain This Week Newspaper Al-Jazari was a famous 12th century Muslim engineer who built advanced robotic machines for the King of Diyarbakr in present-day Turkey over 800 years ago. The original water-powered clock told the time to an accuracy of 30 minutes and was also a celebration of the universality of Islam.

The theme in the Bahrain Science Centre during November and December 2013 is `Great Inventions'. Some of humankind's greatest tools or inventions, including the wheel, the Chinese `South-Facing Chariot', al-Jazari's `Elephant Water Clock', and many modern inventions that have had a huge impact on our lives, are on display.
